There are places in the city we simply pass through. Underpasses, street corners, tram stops, walls we glance at without really seeing, our eyes brushing over them while our minds are elsewhere. And then there are places that carry something more. Something that makes us slow down, look up, stop for a moment. Read a stranger’s sentence and, for a brief second, recognize a part of ourselves in it.

Our installation Queer All Year at Fügner Square is one of those places.

Since 2023, it has been part of Prague’s public space. We did not not lock our experiences and emotions behind paid doors, instead, we created a living space for encounter and quiet closeness, a place where anyone can pause. A place where anonymous confessions are written into the city itself, transforming an ordinary passage into a moment when a person realizes that even someone else’s experience can feel unexpectedly close.

QAY was created out of the need to give queer experiences a permanent place in public space. Not only during festivals, themed weeks, or highly visible social moments, but in everyday life. Because identity does not begin or end with a date in the calendar. It is part of our daily lives, just like the city we move through.

But public space is a living organism, and like all living things, it is shaped by time. Rain, frost, sun, daily traffic, and the actions of those who see not value in a space but only a surface to damage — each of these forces slowly wears down a place that was created to bring Prague, and all of us, a sense of acceptance.

Over the past months, we have been repairing the installation ourselves, as much as we could. Through small interventions, we have kept it alive. But after this winter, it has become clear that it needs a much larger restoration.

So it can continue to be a place where people pause. A place where someone finds a testimony that helps them name the feeling they wake up with every morning. A place where someone, for the first time, feels that they are not alone in what they are going through.

That is why we are launching the crowdfunding campaign Adopt Your Own 1m².

Its goal is simple: to raise funds for the restoration of the installation and its continued care.

The Technical Road Administration is contributing 60,000 CZK, but part of the costs still remains on us. And because PRAHO! project is built on community, volunteer work, and the support of people who believe that public space can carry deeper meaning, we are reaching out to everyone who has ever stopped in our underpass — even just once — to reflect, to feel, to belong.

The name Adopt Your Own 1m² is symbolic. It is not really about owning a piece of space — it is about building a relationship with it. About being able to say: this place matters to me.

Every contribution helps — no matter its size. It helps restore the physical material, but it also helps keep something much more fragile alive: the possibility of open dialogue in public space.

Places like QAY are never a given. They are the result of work, trust, the courage of people willing to share their experiences, and the willingness of others to stop and listen.

The restoration is planned for June 5, 2026. Until then, our campaign is running, and we are grateful for any kind of support — whether financial, by sharing the campaign, or simply by telling others about it.

And if you would like to actively join us in the life of this installation, we invite You to the QAY return event, taking place on June 18th, directly at the site of the installation.

Because sometimes it takes very little for public space to remain a place where people can meet in ways deeper than just passing glances. And sometimes, one square meter is enough for someone to feel that they belong.

Thank You for being part of this with us.
