Public space is a mirror of society – a place for dialogue, dissent, encounters, and creation. Over the past few weeks, we have explored how it can be transformed through two workshops, where we introduced the values and work of the PRAHO! project.
Lectures and Workshops
The first workshop took place at the Faculty of Humanities, Charles University, as part of the weekend academy Díky, že můžem. Titled How Can We Transform Public Space?, it was led by Běta and Julie, who, together with the participants, explored how artistic interventions influence our perception of our surroundings and how they can inspire active engagement.
At the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University, our Klárka held a lecture and discussion workshop titled Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder: Conflicts Over Artistic Restoration of Public Spaces. She examined the conflicts that arise when public spaces are reshaped by artists, officials, or activists – and who ultimately decides what is considered “beautiful.”
Each of these gatherings reinforces our belief in the importance of discussing public space as a shared, ever-changing, and sensitive environment for those who inhabit it. If you would be interested in hosting a lecture or workshop at your school, let us know – we’d be happy to come!
